The Beach Boys
Beginning their career as the most popular surf band in the nation, the Beach Boys finally emerged by 1966 as America's preeminent pop group, the only act able to challenge (for a brief time) the overarching success of the Beatles with both mainstream listeners and the critical community....

The Zombies
Aside from the Beatles and perhaps the Beach Boys, no mid-'60s rock group wrote melodies as gorgeous as those of the Zombies. Dominated by Colin Blunstone's breathy vocals, choral backup harmonies, and Rod Argent's shining jazz- and classical-influenced organ and piano, the band sounded utterly unique for their era....

Lucky 7
This NYC-based quintet tours the club circuit, filling the dance floors with their rocking blend of Cajun, zydeco, blues and rock & roll. Relying primarily on the songwriting talents of their two singers, ex-Mink DeVille keyboard/accordion player Kenny Margolis and ex-Rockats guitarist Barry "BB" Ryan, Lucky 7 have also included a couple covers on their releases, notably Dylan's "Night After Night" and Canned Heat's "Going up the Country" (both on Feed the Snake)....

Don Rickles
Believe it or don't: comedian Don Rickles—the "Merchant of Venom," "The Caliph of Calumny," "Mister Warmth"—was once a dedicated student at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. As a movie-struck kid, Rickles aspired to share the Big Screen with such idols as Clark Gable and James Cagney....

Buddy Guy
He's Chicago's blues king today, ruling his domain just as his idol and mentor Muddy Waters did before him. Yet there was a time, and not all that long ago, when Buddy Guy couldn't even negotiate a decent record deal....

Martha Davis
Martha Davis and her sister Amber Davis record together and alone in the gospel genre, their specialty being harmony singing. The pair recorded with Ralph Stanley of Appalachian music fame in 2005. This Martha Davis should not be confused with the leader of the Motels, nor the popular pianist and singer of the same name from the '40s....

Sweet
In some ways, the Sweet epitomized all the tacky hubris and garish silliness of the early '70s. Fusing bubblegum melodies with crunching, fuzzy guitars, the band looked a heavy metal band, but were as tame as any pop group....
